Ready to help level the playing field? The GIST is looking for a  finance professional to help uplevel and scale our finance function and support the needs of a growing company. Reporting to our Co-founder and Head of Finance, Operations & Growth, this person will be responsible for leading accounting and finance as well as working cross-functionally in developing efficient processes and policies. We are looking for someone who is passionate about building from the ground up, finds opportunity for process improvements and automation, and drives controls and accuracy.

Role: Finance & Accounting Manager

Reports into: Co-founder, Head of Operations, Finance & Growth

Location: Remote, North America.

Key Objective: Own and uplevel our accounting and finance functions as our first dedicated Finance hire

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting function, including transactions related to the general ledger, receivables, payables, payroll, treasury, etc.
  • Manage and improve the month-end close process to provide timely and accurate financial information for management and external reporting
  • Own the A/R process which involves regular client billing and collaboration with the revenue organization on insertion order terms and collections
  • Manage and oversee the full cycle accounts payable and vendor management process
  • Lead our payroll function, including liaising with People Operations and leaders across the business to ensure timely and accurate payment to our employees
  • Oversee employee expense management system, employer health tax remittance and record of employment generation
  • Assist with registration of company to various states for payroll tax purposes
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations
  • Proactively review current procedures and seek ways to improve them via implementation of new tools, systems, and processes
  • Oversee the tax management process, including monthly sales tax reporting, monitoring sales tax exposure in other regions, and overseeing the annual SR&ED process
  • Respond to inquiries from staff regarding budgets, deposits, disbursement and grant
  • reporting requests
  • Help prepare monthly and annual operating budgets and cash management models, and providing ongoing tracking against plan
  • Provide strategic financial and cash flow guidance to the company's principals and assist in the financial management of the company
  • Lead grant applications and reporting
  • Assist with managing financial relationships with the company's vendors, customers, lenders and external banking relationships etc.

About you:

  • Degree in finance, accounting, or related field
  • A minimum of four years experience in an accounting or finance role
  • CPA designation
  • Experience working independently or on smaller and nimble finance teams is an asset
  • Intimately familiar with tools such as Quickbooks Online, Excel, etc.
  • Comfortable building policies, procedures, and practices and adapting them on the fly as the business grows and adapts.
  • A self-starter who enjoys working within a close-knit team environment.
  • Possesses superior organizational skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, tact, initiative, drive, and takes ownership of the role.
