The GIST: As you read, for the third straight year (and fifth time in the last seven seasons), the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners are your NCAA softball national champions, finishing their incredible record-setting season on a 53-game win streak. Dominant? More like the undisputed dynasty.

How they did it: After chipping their way through the No. 3 Florida State Seminoles’ bullpen to win Wednesday’s Game 1 5–0, Oklahoma trailed FSU for exactly two outs last night…then sophomore first baseman Cydney Sanders and fifth-year shortstop Grace Lyons blasted back-to-back home runs en route to the 3–1 Game 2 dub and the program’s seventh ’ship.

  • The Most Outstanding Player? Sooner sophomore pitcher Jordy Bahl, who didn’t surrender a single run throughout the entire Women’s College World Series (WCWS). Ice in her veins.

The bigger picture: As the first team to three-peat since the 1988–90 UCLA Bruins (the only other squad to do it), it’s clear that Gasso — who’s led the Sooners since 1994 — has the recipe for success in a sport with skyrocketing parity: one part unwavering confidence, one part unrivaled loyalty to her players, and a healthy dash of elite transfer talent.

  • As for the sport itself, the sky’s as limitless as the Sooners’ records. With showstopping plays, big personalities, and even bigger talent, it’s no wonder the WCWS keeps smashing attendance and viewership numbers. Because in OKC, if you build it…
