Another day, another opportunity to make menâs sports about women thanks to Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver (WR) Emeka Egbukaâs gameday âfit â an ode to his wife, BK Häcken defensive midfielder and Notre Dame womenâs soccer alum Laney Egbuka.
- Unfortunately for Emeka, the Bucs couldnât take a page out of Laneyâs winning playbook in Week 6: Tampa Bay fell 26â19 in overtime to the Pittsburgh Steelers despite the 24-year-old hauling in a touchdown. Thereâs always next week.

â¤ď¸â𩹠Breaking down the Jalen Hurts story

The GIST: Philadelphia Eagles quarterback (QB) Jalen Hurts will miss the rest of the season after several blood clots were discovered in his lungs. Hereâs what you need to know about this serious and developing medical situation.
â° The timeline: Hurts was diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in his calf ahead of the Birdsâ Week 5 game in London. The three-time Pro Bowler reportedly sustained the initial injury when he was cleated in a Week 4 tilt against the LA Rams â though the clot itself wasnât found until after the Eaglesâ transatlantic flight to England.
- After undergoing screening on his calf in London, Hurts was hospitalized and advised not to sleep (and he didnât for 36 hours) ahead of Sundayâs kickoff as it was too big a risk. What apparently wasnât a risk? Playing in that international football game.
- The star signal caller threw for 220 yards and a touchdown in the loss before boarding yet another transatlantic flight to return home. An ultrasound last Wednesday revealed movement in the clot, leading the QB to undergo additional evaluations.
- Then, Hurtsâ season-ending diagnosis was revealed yesterday: deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, aka multiple blood clots that traveled to both lungs.
𩺠The medical reality: Blood thinners are the usual course of action for treating blood clots, and thatâs exactly how Hurtsâ medical team is approaching his recovery. Other high-profile athletes â like tennis legend Serena Williams and NBA icon Victor Wembanyama â have successfully navigated pulmonary emboli and returned to competitionâŚbut not quickly.
đ The football consequences: According to Hurtsâ agent Nicole Lynn, heâs clinically stable and on blood thinners, which reduce the risks of new clots forming and current clots increasing in size. This buys time for Hurtsâ body to break down and dissolve the emboli, a process that could take months.
- As long as Hurts is on blood thinners, he canât play football. The Birds will have to navigate a new normal without their cornerstone QB in an already tumultuous season â but Hurtsâ health is the only priority in a situation like this.

1. San Francisco 49ers (6-0) â¤ď¸
Last nightâs win means SF could clinch the NFC West as soon as Week 11. Our jaws? On the floor.
2. Kansas City Chiefs (5-0) đ
QB Patrick Mahomes is still that guy, surgically repaired ACL notwithstanding.
3. Minnesota Vikings (5-0) đ
Haters will say itâs the cupcake schedule, but this defense is too legit to quit.

Cancel the fraud alert because New England Patriots QB Drake Maye is slinging it once again. After throwing six interceptions and one touchdown in his first three games, the 2025 MVP runner-up has been stellar ever since, tossing 10 touchdowns and one pick over three tilts.
- The 24-year-oldâs return to form has powered the reigning AFC champs to three straight wins, including a pivotal Week 5 victory over their divisional forever foe, the Buffalo Bills. A sweet victory, served warm.
That said, the skies arenât completely clear just yet. WR A.J. Brown and Maye still need some lessons in chemistry: Brown managed just three catches (on 10 targets) for 27 yards in his Week 6 return from injury. Just like a New England fall, this forecast remains a little uncertain.
Until next week â may your teamâs offense always find the endzone,
