She, she, she, she, she, she, she
From The GIST (hi@thegistsports.com)
Happy Hump Day!
ICYMI, SHE Weekend, the women’s sports extravaganza we’re planning with Flavor Flav, officially kicks off tomorrow. Want to be part of the weekend? Use this form to submit a mailbag question, and an Olympian or Paralympian might just answer it.
- From “What’s the proudest moment in your athletic career?” to “How many steps are in your gameday skincare routine?” ask away — this is your direct line to the world’s top athletes. Let’s chat.

The GIST: With one semifinal down and one to go, this World Cup (WC) is feeling like a show we binged too fast and don’t want to end. Here’s what you need to know as we race towards this Sunday’s grand finale.
🇪🇸 Spain blanks France 2–0 to reach second-ever World Cup Final: The grand European duel fans expected never materialized as La Roja outclassed Les Bleus and secured the highly coveted first-title-game berth. What a gift for birthday boy Lamine Yamal, who will try to ink his name on the exclusive list of teenage World Cup winners come Sunday.
🏴 England vs. 🇦🇷 Argentina — Today at 3 p.m. ET: Both teams have lethal goalscorers. Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane combined for 12 of England’s 13 total goals — the first time in a men’s WC that teammates scored six or more times. Meanwhile, Argentina has 39-year-old Lionel Messi, who is still breaking records in his sixth WC yet is taking on England for the first time.
- There’s a deep backstory between these two countries: England vs. Argentina is considered one of the best rivalries in soccer (and perhaps the spiciest). The hate, history, and divine handballs make today’s game can’t-miss footy. So sat.
Together With Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities
▶️ The power of play

⭐️ Every kid deserves a chance to shine both on and off the pitch. That’s why Jumpstart is focused on removing financial, physical, and systemic barriers that so often keep youth on the sidelines.

- Since 2005, Jumpstart has helped over 4.5M children access sport and play thanks to support from Canadian Tire Corporation and generous Canadians.
❤️ Jumpstart helps kids build confidence, connection, and real-life skills — the essentials for lifelong success. Wins all around.
MLB All-Star Week
⚾ Getcha game on

The GIST: From Patti LaBelle’s high notes to star-studded swings, MLB All-Star Week played all the hits in Philadelphia. Here’s the latest from the extra sparkly diamond before regular-season action resumes tomorrow.
💪 Jordan Walker becomes first St. Louis Cardinal to win Home Run Derby: Much to the disappointment of the loyal and loud Philadelphia crowd, first-time All-Star Walker topped the hometown hero, the Phillies’ Kyle Schwarber, in Monday’s Home Run Derby final.
- Walker blocked out the boos and blasted six straight long balls to claim the trophy, not to mention the $1M prize — a significant bonus on his $799K salary. Making Mom and Dad oh so proud.
- And Walker wasn’t the only one winning — MLB’s revamped Derby format was, well, a home run, generating tension and anticipation with every swing. Truly knocking it out of the park.
🤩 American League wins All-Star Game 4–0: The AL is back on top, now boasting a 49-45-2 all-time ASG record against their National League foes. The team’s pitchers stole the show, combining for a whopping 15 strikeouts in the dub.

⚽ Washington Spirit takes on Gotham FC at Citi Field tonight at 8 p.m. ET
Can’t get enough soccer? Same — and tonight’s NWSL Rivalry Game, a rematch of the 2025 NWSL Championship, will be fierce. The match will likely break NYC’s record for most-attended women’s sporting event ever , which could be the perfect scene for Gotham’s latest acquisition, legendary striker Sam Kerr, to make her debut.
⛳ Golfers will face “unprecedented” conditions at this weekend’s men’s Open Championship
It’s been unseasonably warm in England, so players are expecting unusually fast conditions at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club for the year’s fourth and final major. It’s TBD how they respond, especially world No. 1 and defending champ Scottie Scheffler, who uncharacteristically missed the cut at last week’s Scottish Open.
🏀 Minnesota Lynx rookie Olivia Miles scores career-high 33 points in win over Phoenix Mercury
Now at the midway point in the WNBA season, Miles continues to assert her dominance as one of the league’s brightest stars on its best team, adding three rebounds and eight assists to Monday’s performance. Miles says it’s all about team chemistry — see if Minnesota has another dance in them today at 1 p.m. ET against the beleaguered LA Sparks.
⚽🇨🇦 Winnipeg awarded the first NSL expansion team
Led by hometown hero and former CanWNT star Desiree Scott in the front office, Winnipeg will be home to the NSL’s seventh team, set to join the league for the 2027 season. Scott retired from soccer last year and immediately set to work on bringing a women’s pro team to her province. Allez.
