The GIST: Canada’s biggest women’s bonspiel begins today in Kamloops, BC, with a spot at the Women’s World Championships on the line. Every rock counts.

How it works: An 18-team field consisting of 14 provincial/territorial teams, Team Canada (aka reigning champs Team Einarson) and three Wild Card squads are split into two pools (A and B). They’ll attempt to sweep away the competition during their respective round robin action.

  • From there, the top three teams in each pool advance to a knockout playoff round ahead of next Sunday’s semifinal and championship matches.

The contenders: Tournament favorites Team Kerri Einarson (Canada) will try to become the second squad to ever four-peat since the legendary Jennifer Jones did it in 2004.

  • Over in Pool B, Team Rachel Homan (Ontario) may have a new roster, but the two-time Olympian and 2017 World Champion skip definitely has the veteran experience to break through.

How to watch: Team Canada vs. Team Laurie St-Georges (Québec) highlight the first set of games taking to the sheets, today at 6 p.m. ET, with action airing on TSN1 (except for this Sunday, when it’ll switch over to TSN2). Hurry hard.
