The 2023 French Open is nearing its finale with thrilling matches
The GIST: Tennis’ second Grand Slam of the year is nearing its finale, with two thrilling men’s semis set for this morning and a somewhat surprising women’s final on deck for tomorrow. Fantastique.
Men’s: One of the most anticipated matches of the tournament is today’s 8:45 a.m. ET semi between heir apparent, No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, and No. 3 Novak Djokovic, who’s fighting for a record-setting 23rd major.
- Come 11:30 a.m. ET, it’s No. 4 Casper Ruud vs. No. 22 Alexander Zverev, who’s making an awe-inspiring return to top form just one year after leaving Roland Garros in a wheelchair.
- And today’s winners will meet in Sunday’s 9 a.m. ET final. Resist the urge to hit snooze.
Women’s: Reigning champ No. 1 Iga Świątek comes cruising into tomorrow’s 9 a.m. ET final having not dropped a set all tourney. Her opponent? Unseeded Karolina Muchova, who’s making her first Grand Slam final appearance after upsetting No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in yesterday’s semis.
- Świątek is the undisputed favorite, but Muchova’s giving plenty of reason to expect the unexpected.
