Las Vegas Aces are WNBA champions
The GIST: So nice, we had to say it thrice: the Las Vegas Aces are your WNBA champions after grinding out a 78–71 victory in Game 4 against the Connecticut Sun yesterday. Cue that confetti.
Yesterday’s Game 4: It took the entire star-studded Vegas lineup to get the job done. Finals MVP Chelsea Gray (20 points) continued her incredible postseason run, Riquna (rih-QWAHN-uh) Williams added 17 off the bench and league MVP A’ja Wilson posted a double-double, notably playing every minute of the title-clinching win. Heart of a champion.
- The Sun kept things interesting — specifically Alyssa Thomas, who netted her second straight (and just the second ever) Finals triple-double — but the Aces’ full house of talent would not be denied.
- Their fearless leader? Vegas head coach (HC) Becky Hammon, who’s now the first HC to hoist the trophy in her inaugural season and the first W player to win the ’ship as a HC. You hear that, doubters?
Season in review: The Aces’ explosive win was the perfect exclamation point on an unforgettable WNBA season. Record-setting viewership, mind-blowing stat lines, a couple of GOATs making their final runs — the list goes on and on. This year’s chapter might be closing, but it’s just the beginning for the continued growth of the league. Count (on) it.
