The GIST: While the NHL contends with questions about the Arizona Coyotes’ future, four other warm-weather squads are taking to the ice for the Conference Finals. Burning up.

Eastern Conference Final: Playoff scoring sensation winger Matthew Tkachuk (kuh-CHUCK) fared better than his former classmate (the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum) as his underdog undercat Florida Panthers schooled the Carolina Hurricanes 3–2 in last night’s Game 1 in Raleigh, which was one of the longest games in NHL history.

  • The ’Canes will have to batten down the hatches on their home ice in tomorrow’s 8 p.m. ET Game 2.

Western Conference Final: The reigning Western Conference regular-season champ Vegas Golden Knights host the Dallas Stars for Game 1 tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET. Dallas holds the head-to-head advantage after topping Vegas thrice this season, but you can’t bet against the Golden Knights’ (mainly Canadian) lineup featuring captain Mark Stone and winger Jonathan Marchessault.
