The 2022 LPGA Season
The record-setting 2022 LPGA season teed off on Thursday with the first round of the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions and will conclude with the CME Group Tour Championship in mid-November.
- What’s so record-setting about this year? Money, baby. LPGA tour members will compete for $85.7 million in purses across 34 tournaments, a sharp increase from last year’s then-record-setting total of $76.4 million.
As for the events, while the men’s PGA tour only has four majors, the women have five: the Chevron Championship (renamed from the ANA Inspiration), the US Women’s Open, the Women’s PGA Championship, the Women’s British Open and finally, the Evian Championship.
- Patty Berg — the inaugural president of the LPGA — holds the record for most major wins with 15, but South Korea’s Inbee Park could make a dent this season, with seven to her name and counting.
- Another storyline we’ll be watching? The budding rivalry between respective World No. 1 Nelly Korda and No. 2 Jin Young Ko. Luckily (unlike the men of the PGA), this battle is limited to the actual golf.
