The GIST: The No. 1 Las Vegas Aces are one win away from the ’ship after last night’s thrilling 85–71 Game 2 dub over the No. 3 Connecticut Sun. The sun may set in the west, but this might end in the east as the series shifts to Connecticut for Game 3.

Last night’s Game 2: In not-so-shocking news, the unstoppable Aces dynamic duo of A’ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray scored 26 and 21 points, respectively, with Wilson recording her fifth consecutive double-double, not to mention a franchise record-tying point total. Sheesh.

  • Add in a little Kelsey Plum magic (20 points) and you might have a recipe for a title.
  • The Sun fought hard, but Las Vegas beat them at their own game, outscoring Connecticut 46-to-28 in the paint, with Sun star DeWanna Bonner held to just two points.

Tomorrow’s Game 3: Time to fly charter to the Nutmeg state, where Vegas could hoist their first franchise WNBA trophy. If their three-headed monster in Gray, Wilson and Plum can match yesterday’s showing, the Aces could be high-rolling away with the title.

  • As for Connecticut, no squad has overcome an 0-2 deficit in a best-of-five series in W history, but this Sun team is resilient. If they can find some consistency on offense, they stand a chance of staying alive and fending off the Aces’ championship dreams.
  • Tipoff is tomorrow at 9 p.m. ET on Sportsnet — you don’t want to miss this.
