The GIST: WNBA free agents can officially ink deals starting on Wednesday, but one squad already hit the jackpot — two-time MVP Candace Parker announced on Saturday that she plans to sign with the Las Vegas Aces. Now the question is, who else will bet big to contend with the defending champs?

Candace Parker: The seven-time All-Star was one of the most coveted free agents on the market, and for good reason. Her first major free agency splash came back in 2021, when she joined forces with her hometown team, the Chicago Sky, and led them to their first title. All she does is win.

  • Now she’s expected to do even more of it in Vegas. The Aces boast a lineup that features four former No. 1 draft picks in Parker, reigning MVP A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young, not to mention clutch shooter Chelsea Gray. *gulps*
  • But amid the excitement in Vegas, there are also lingering concerns, specifically surrounding former Ace Dearica Hamby’s allegations that the organization discriminated against her in relation to her pregnancy. Hoping for answers and accountability, ASAP.

Breanna Stewart: With CP3 off the board, all eyes are now on 2018 MVP Stewart’s free agency decisions. She didn’t drop any new emoji-riddled clues, but reports indicate it’s down to two teams: the Seattle Storm, who she’s spent her entire W career with, and the NY Liberty, the squad she’s been linked to in recent weeks. Time to turn those Twitter notifications on.
