Week 13 NFL recap
Content warning: This section contains mention of sexual misconduct.
The GIST: It was lucky number Week 13 for a handful of the league’s top teams who continued to shine, but unlucky for fans of morality, thanks to the return of Cleveland Browns quarterback (QB) Deshaun Watson.
Watson booed in return: As detailed in yesterday’s Scroll, Watson took the field for the first time this season following a paltry 11-game suspension after at least 24 women accused him of sexual misconduct. The highlight? The chorus of boos he was met with before every snap on the road against his former team, the Houston Texans. Turn it up.
Soarin’, flyin’: The Philadelphia Eagles’ dominant season continued with a 35–10 win over the playoff-hunting Tennessee Titans. QB Jalen Hurts dazzled, becoming the first Eagle to throw for 350 yards, pass for three touchdowns (TDs) and rush for a fourth in one game. What can’t he do?
We think we’ve seen this film before: History repeated itself in yesterday’s rematch of last season’s AFC Championship game, as Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow tossed two TDs and ran for one more to take down QB Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs 27–24, snapping KC’s 26-game unbeaten streak in November and December. Ice cold.
Injury report: The NFC West–leading San Francisco 49ers suffered a brutal loss in yesterday’s 33–17 win over the Miami Dolphins. Starting QB Jimmy Garoppolo is out for the season after breaking his foot on the opening drive, marking the second season-ending QB injury for the 49ers this year after Trey Lance went out with an ankle injury in September.
