Highlights of the NBA trade deadline
The GIST: “New team, who dis,” said pretty much everyone after yesterday’s hectic NBA trade deadline. From superteams disbanding to top contenders growing even stronger, here’s what you missed on Gleedeadline day.
Kevin Durant: Hoops fans woke up to a new superteam yesterday morning: The Brooklyn Nets dealt KD to the Phoenix Suns, stunningly reversing course on their previous plans to keep the 13-time All-Star in the borough. The Nets have officially entered their rebuild era, especially after trading Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks earlier this week.
- Meanwhile, things are just heating up for the Suns, who now boast their own Big Three in Durant, Devin Booker and Chris Paul…if they can stay healthy.
Elsewhere: Another big name on the move? 2017 MVP Russell Westbrook, who was sent from the LA Lakers to the Utah Jazz, marking the fourth time he’s been traded in the last four seasons. Somebody get this guy a moving company sponsorship, stat.
- When it was all said and done, a whopping 16 trades took place on deadline day, shaking up the league in ways that only time will tell. You truly can’t script this drama.
