Can the Maple Leafs stave off elimination again?
The GIST: The Carolina Hurricanes became the first team to clinch a Conference Finals berth with last night’s 3–2 Game 5 overtime victory over the NJ Devils. And, against all odds, Canada’s teams still have a chance to join them.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Florida Panthers: Spring cleaning can wait — the Buds staved off elimination with a crucial 2–1 Wednesday win, highlighted by Joseph (Stone) Woll’s goaltending and forward Mitch Marner’s magic mitts.
- Now down 3-1, the Leafs will need to keep bringing their “eh” game in tonight’s 7 p.m. ET must-win Game 5 in the 6ix.
Edmonton Oilers vs. Vegas Golden Knights: Tensions continue to flare in the wild, wild West, where the Oilers notched a series-tying 4–1 victory on Wednesday. But the win wasn’t without consequence: Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse faces a one-game suspension for instigating a fight with Vegas D-man Nic Hague.
- Luckily, Edmonton can rely on Ted Lindsay Award finalist Connor McDavid to bring the offensive pressure when the puck drops in Sin City for tonight’s Game 5 at 10 p.m. ET.
Elsewhere: After last night’s 5–2 Game 5 win over the Seattle Kraken, the Dallas Stars can advance when the teams meet again for Game 6 in the Emerald City tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET. That said, this series has been anything but predictable.
