CanWNT defeats Jamaica to reach CONCACAF final
The GIST: And exhale. With last night’s 3–0 semifinal win over Jamaica, CanWNT is on to Monday’s CONCACAF W final, where they’ll face the USWNT, with an automatic berth to the 2024 Paris Olympics on the line. Okay, time to hyperventilate again.
Last night’s semi: While contending with an off-field pay equity controversy, CanWNT easily handled Jamaica 3–0 last night thanks to goals from Jessie Fleming, Allysha Chapman and Adriana Leon. Dominance.
USWNT vs. Costa Rica: As for the other semi, U.S. defender Emily Sonnett notched her first international goal to help lift the USWNT over Costa Rica 3–0, setting up a finals rematch of the epic U.S. vs. Canada 2012 and 2020 Olympics semifinals.
- The USWNT were the beneficiaries of a controversial call en route to their 2012 gold, but the defending gold medalist CanWNT had the last laugh last summer. Full preview to come ahead of Monday’s 10 p.m. ET kick-off, of course. Can’t wait.
