No Canadians remain at Indian Wells Open after week one

The GIST: Just one week into the prestigious Indian Wells Open hosted in California and every Canadian singles player has already been ousted from the tournament. So much for serving.

Auger-Aliassime vs. Alcaraz: World No. 31 Félix Auger-Aliassime was the final Canuck in contention but fell in straight sets to world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz yesterday, suffering a third-round exit.

• Ever since Auger-Aliassime’s early exit at the Australian Open in January, the 23-year-old hasn’t been able to find his footing on the hard court, an alarming trend in Canadian tennis so far this season.

Zooming out: The Canadians have enjoyed recent success with a 2022 Davis Cup title and 2023 Billie Jean King Cup victory, but injuries and inconsistencies have plagued the red and white, which begs the question: How will they break out of this slump before the difficult clay court season?
