The LPGA Tour is returning to Boston for the first time since 1997

The GIST: For the first time since 1997, the LPGA Tour is coming back to Boston. The 2024 FM Global Championship Tournament will tee off at the prestigious TPC Boston, including a featured event at Fenway Park. Green meets Green Monster — that’s wicked smaht.
The sponsor: Based in Rhode Island, FM Global is one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers. Its CEO Malcolm Roberts described the LPGA tournament as a way to promote diversity and inclusion on the playing field and in the workplace, which FM Global aims to achieve through the partnership.
The details: The inaugural event, scheduled for next August, will feature 144 golfers playing for a $3.5M prize purse. The tourney begins a five-year partnership for FM Global’s first major sports activation, and it’s starting off with a bang — it boasts the seventh-largest purse on tour, below only the majors and tour championship.
The trend: Women’s sports are rapidly developing in Boston, and sponsors are smart to sign on early. This year, the city won bids for a PWHL team and an NWSL franchise, adding to its WFA dynasty and WNBA fandom. What can we say — the town’s got moxie.
