The GIST: The NY Knicks are suing the Toronto Raptors for more than $10M after alleging a former Knicks employee shared confidential documents with the Canadian squad. Pearson Hardman, you up?
The context: Back in August, the Knicks filed a lawsuit against the Raptors, accusing them of conspiring to steal scouting information.
- Ikechukwu “Ike” Azotam, a former assistant video coordinator for the Knicks, was named as the “mole,” with allegations that he sent Toronto private NY files at the request of the Raptors’ newly named head coach, Darko Rajaković.
- The Raps tried to dismiss the lawsuit in October, calling it “baseless” because the materials Azotam (who is now their new head of video) accessed were public information. They also asked for NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to settle the dispute himself.
The latest: In addition to seeking millions in damages, the Knicks’ latest suit also targets Silver, requesting that the most powerful man in the league recuse himself from any in-house mediation given his personal relationship with Raptors owner Larry Tanenbaum. Messy.
