WNBA Finals Game 4 by the numbers
The GIST: It’s not just the Las Vegas Aces who won (again!) in a Game 4 nail-biter against the New York Liberty: the fans, the WNBA, and the media landscape also cashed in. Here are a few numbers to prove that the Las Vegas dynasty really is raising the stakes.
21: The number of years since the WNBA has seen a back-to-back champion. Running it back is just how the Aces roll — it’s no coincidence it maintains the highest-paid woman coach and the league’s first purpose-built facility.
1.3M: Peak viewership for Game 4, which rose to new heights during the game’s final minutes. It became the most-watched Game 4 in WNBA Finals history and saw an estimated 350K boost above the 945K peak viewers in Game 3.
889K: The average viewership for Game 4, marking a 124% increase over 2022’s Game 4 between the Connecticut Sun and Las Vegas Aces. It also meant a 230K boost in average viewership compared to Game 3 — these two superteams know how to build momentum.
728K: Average viewership for the 2023 WNBA Finals overall, which jumped from 673K average viewers through Games 1 to 3 and had a 36% increase YoY.
220: The average miles WNBA fans traveled to attend Game 4, which they paid an average of $118 to watch, making Game 4 one of the best-selling WNBA games of all time.
$500K: The jackpot for winning it all, with each Aces player earning $20.8K for the dub. Additionally, Finals MVP A’ja Wilson pocketed an extra $15.4K for this year’s win, but her dominant play will also likely add major sponsorship dollars to her estimated $2M net worth — she’s already rolling out a Nike spot and a book deal.
