The GIST: One of the biggest takeaways from 2023? That women are a (fiscal) force. According to Google, this trend was highlighted throughout November as women athletes and fans dominated sports conversations.

🏀 For November, American search interest in NCAA DI women's basketball (WBB) was higher than it was for their male counterparts. And to no one’s surprise, Iowa — elevated by national superstar Caitlin Clark — searched for WBB the most.

  • Iowa wasn’t the only state searching for women’s hoops. WBB was searched more than the men’s side in 26 (!!!) U.S. states, including Oregon, Texas, Louisiana, South Carolina, and Connecticut — all of which host famed WBB programs.

Search interest in the NWSL reached an all-time high in the U.S. last month thanks to a celebrated final matchup between Megan Rapinoe’s OL Reign and Ali Krieger’s NY/NJ Gotham FC, which brought home their first-ever championship hardware.

  • Meanwhile, the most-searched player was Gotham’s Lynn Williams, who became the only four-time NWSL champion after gifting her team the opening goal in the final. Absolutely batty.

🏈 The top trending NFL matchup was the Super Bowl rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, and we have Taylor Swift women to thank for some of that.
